Text Box: Learning through Play:
In the imaginative play area’s restaurant, children practice polite table manners.
We have many counting games available so children can practice one-on-one correspondence (saying one numeral name for one object)
After our trip to the beach, children will recall the sealife they discovered as they create a collage.

We are outside more, so on the good days, please put on sunscreen before school.

Text Box: Classroom Goals:
We have a consistent goal in school to help our children learn to communicate in a positive way and also to learn to LISTEN to what others are communicating. This is a year-long lesson (at least!)
We learn to LOOK at the body language of the other person. Is that face happy? sad? mad? afraid? What do we need to do when that person doesn’t look happy?
Another tool we are teaching is the empowerment of holding up a hand and saying, “STOP. Please don’t…” This gives the other child (who is also still learning these things) a clear visual clue that something needs attention.
Children have to learn about others’ physical boundaries. A friendly “in-your-face” moment to one child can feel like aggression to another, and children have to learn to read these situations.
As with all learned behaviors, children need to practice this—in school and at home. So over summer, we hope you continue helping your child become aware of others’ boundaries and feelings, as well as becoming comfortable expressing his or her own feelings and boundaries.
We are in awe of each child’s tremendous emotional and cognitive growth. We are eager to continue helping them feel empowered in all aspects of their learning.
Thank you for your support. It does take a village to raise a child.
