“For those willing to lean in, the transformative nature of children imparts lessons of vulnerability, curiosity, discomfort, and resilience.”

In true KPS fashion, Kaylin, an alumni, joined our team soon after after graduating in 2019. Kaylin began a gap year which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As with many worldwide, they realized that they wanted to change the track they were on, and began working remotely for KPS. They spent the early days of the pandemic learning graphic design and web management skills, and completed a full redesign of our website.

In the spring of 2021, Kaylin joined the teaching team in the T-W-Th-F classroom for the 2021-2022 school year. She brought an enthusiastic, community focused approach to the classroom, building upon our social-emotional education curriculum and expanding classroom experiences in her own unique way. One of Kaylin’s projects took place during the transportation unit. Students were introduced to the ongoing 85th Street Station plans and then designed their own solutions for transporting many people. Creations ranged from a gondola in meticulous detail to a tunnel with escalators to a flying bus. The ideas, detail, and creative thinking certainly joined the “portfolio” of favorite student interactions for Kaylin!

Kaylin also brings a different perspective from their background in administration and education at one of our local ski schools, where she spent ten years teaching beginner to advanced ski skills with children and adults. Kaylin also facilitated instructor development training and continuing education clinics for many years, wrote a 40 page snowsports song and games book, and managed the preschool skiing program.

Kaylin works primarily remotely again, from Seattle, with Marlowe and Bug (two tuxedo kitties) supervising. In Kaylin’s free time, she travels frequently, tends to a prolific (totally out of control!) garden, and hosts a weekly board game night with friends.
