Carolyn’s comments…..

A school year ending … how did it go so fast?!  And the anticipation of new friends joining us for summer and then for fall!  This cycle, year after year, has given us all such joy as we make more and more friends, who enjoy helping children find their own ways of learning and growing.

This newsletter is a chance for us to say farewell and thank you to many of you.  We really appreciate your support and friendships.  AND you must remember that we always like to keep in touch.  Just last Wednesday, I ran into two moms from the past — both with former preschoolers who are graduating from college this spring!  So please be assured—we do fondly remember our little part in your families’ lives.

We also get to extend our welcome to you new families.  We want you to start feeling comfortable with our school, so it truly turns into “our” school for all of us.

So please check out the information , mark one of our playdates on your calendar, maybe consider one of the Summer Adventures, and enjoy your summer!

WHAT’S A
“SUMMER ADVENTURE”?

Summer should be for kicking back, digging in the dirt and just messing about. So we offer four 8-day Summer Adventures to help you child find that magic feeling.

Teachers Patrice and Andrea assist the children as they carry out many civil engineering projects (sand box rivers, tunnels and bridges), create artistic masterpieces, tend the garden, and just lay back under the shade tent.

We have room in each session for more adventurers, so please find that orange mailing you got in mid-April—or check out the web site (www.kirklandpreschool.org) - or call for a flier (425-822-4450).

Please share this with friends and get your own carpool coming!

JUNE 19th HEALTH FAIR  AT
PARKPLACE CENTER

Evergreen Hospital and Parkplace Center are sponsoring a special Health Fair on Saturday, June 19th.  There will be many informational booths, free films, food booths—AND US!

We are hosting a free children’s arts & crafts room from 11:00-7:00.  Parkplace is opening up an empty storefront just to the left of the movie theater for us to use.  Children stay with a parent to play with playdough and experiment with other interesting projects.

As a special opportunity, 3 local children’s authors are reading from their  books in an area of our room.  Parkplace Books is arranging this wonderful experience.

If you can help Carolyn in the room at any time on Saturday, 6/19, please email or just show up.

SCHOOL BARBEQUE—A HUGE SUCCESS!

Our first all-school barbeque on Saturday, May 15th, was fantastic!  Thank you to all who brought such yummy potluck dishes and who had such a great time visiting in the sunshine and who enjoyed our mini-silent auction.  The money raised will help send our teachers to Spokane next October for the State Association for the Education of Young Children conference.  This is a very important way to help us continue to grow as teachers.

We all send a special thank you to our barbeque “staff” - Seth and AnneMarie Charlot, from next fall’s MWF-AM class, grilled the hamburgers and hot dogs.  Jason VanBlericom, from this year’s and next’s TWTh-AM class, poured the wine and beer—and apple juice for the children.  Vince Wirkman, grandpa from the TWTh-AM class, registered the auction participants.  Shari Binion, from this year’s TWTh-PM class stayed for clean-up.  Teachers Andrea, Augusta, Karen, Karla, Patrice and Retha helped before, during and after.  And Jennifer Wirkman, our event and fund-raising coordinator, put the whole thing together.

This was so much fun, we’ll happily do it again next spring!

PLEASE EXPLAIN TUITION TO ME…

Our school sets a yearly tuition and then divides it into 10 equal payments.  Most families pay that way, although some prefer to pay the total and some pay in a few chunks.

Some prefer to pay by check and some prefer to pay by VISA or MasterCard.  We can keep the card number on file and automatically charge the card, if that’s easier than stopping by the office each for each payment.  Alternately, some families send in pre-dated checks to cover the year.

We are collecting the 1st of the 10 payments in June.  The 2nd is due by mid-September, the 3rd by mid-October, etc.  If you keep to this schedule, your 10th payment is paid in May.  So in June, you’re home free!

In advance, thank you for your part in helping our school provide the best education for these young children.

Always, we try to be family-friendly.  So please talk with Carolyn if you need to make different arrangements.

ENJOY OUR FREE
PLAYDATES -FRIDAY,
7/16 & FRIDAY, 8/6

We turn the school backyard into Picnic Central for these 2 Fridays, from 11:00 to 1:00.

Bring all the kids, bring your neighbors and come hang out in the sun.  (We also have shade tents because this IS, you know, the Northwest and we are so shocked by sunshine!)

Bring a picnic lunch, a towel to sit on, lots of towels for wet kids, and changes of clothes for the ride home.

We run water in the sandbox for rivers and lakes.  We paint the fence with water.  We have tubs of water with boats and pouring.  We hope the kids like water….

And there are lots of parents to meet—maybe even some from your old or new class.  Hope to see you, too!

Text Box: PLACES TO GO, THINGS TO DO…..We are so lucky here in the Northwest to have wonderful
opportunities to enjoy summer with our children.
