To present
cultural and aesthetic experiences which will enrich our
students' lives:
Art - To provide opportunities to use paint, playdough, and numerous other art media in fun and creative ways. To encourage each student's own unique creativity and to develop personal pride in his/her artistic achievements.
Music - To provide experiences in sound and rhythm with instruments, voice, and recordings. To experiment vocally with pitch, rhythm, and songs. To encourage the pure joy of music within each student.
Creative Dramatics - To learn self-expression in a fun and creative way. To allow each child to act out feelings and moods in a guided environment.
Pre-reading and Pre-math Activities - To offer developmentally appropriate materials which engage children as they begin to discover written language and an awareness of mathematical concepts. As with all we do, to actively involve the children.
Science - To discover basic "cause
and effect" relationships in the environment and to
use this knowledge to broaden each student's concepts of
life. To encourage a respect for our world and an
attitude of stewardship.
Field Trips - To give the children opportunities to experience both familiar and foreign situations in deliberate and unhurried arrangements. To instill confidence in each child's ability to meet new situations and cope. To broaden each child's view of his/her world.
Citizenship - To encourage a sense of community responsibility and an attitude of positive action by which each of us can make a difference.
To provide a wide variety of materials for experimenting and
learning. These materials are a child's tools and "text
books:"
Equipment for large and small muscle development both inside and outside: climbing bars, slides, sandbox, balancing apparatus, puzzles, small manipulative items, scissors, art utensils, and skill building games and activities.
Blocks and various related toys to use
in conjunction with the blocks for imaginative play, math
development, and coordination.
Housekeeping materials, dress-up clothing and furnishings to teach everyday living skills, cooperation, and language development.
Cooking experiences to foster self-confidence, math and science concepts, and nutritional values.
Stories and sharing experiences to encourage language development and a love of literature.
Large and small group activities to aid in developing social skills and to teach listening and direction-following skills.
Imagination - the best piece of equipment any of us has!
To involve parents in their child's education by including them on a regular basis in the classroom. Each class operates with parents taking turns helping, one at a time.
To develop positive habits and attitudes towards learning.
