KP
t-w-th-f | ages 4-5.5yrs
This class is for 4's & 5's, some of whom will be attending kindergarten in the following September. We also welcome the slightly younger students who are ready for exciting challenges and more independence. We offer a 3 hour morning session.
These students are very independent and self-motivated and are comfortable with large numbers of people. This lively class gives students many opportunities to explore creative avenues and social relationships. Field trips offer another way for the children to actively learn.
Sue and Retha present "kindergarten readiness skills" as a subtly interwoven foundation of letters, sounds, numbers, and numerals. Language and vocabulary skills are emphasized. Rather than isolating concepts, we "hook" the children with interesting topics and activities and then present concepts within those exciting contexts. The teachers in these class have many, many years experience and have developed an absolutely effective program which helps your child enter kindergarten confident and very capable. Attention is always paid to each individuals' developmental level.

All families take turns helping in their classrooms. Our program depends on 1 family helper each day. Everyone signs up for their helping days or may be assigned days. If for some reason you cannot attend class that day, please accept responsibility for contacting other parents in your child's class to arrange for a substitute.
Our curriculum depends on your participation and interaction with the children on your scheduled day. Based on a full class, each child's family should count on 8-9 helping days during the year. (Note: Twin families still need to help per child.) If a family does not meet its obligation, we may have to suggest a different school. Most families find the helping days to be fun and informative, since they are great opportunities to observe your child, talk with your teachers and get to better know your child's friends.
Please note that while we love getting to know your child's siblings, we ask that you please make other childcare arrangements for siblings not enrolled in the class for your helping days.
