To Our Community

January 30, 2026

Dear Kirkland Preschool Community,

We are very grateful to have had an impact that brings this letter to you. Our school has had over 50 wonderful years with children, families, and community members like you, and believe us, this is an amazing gift that each of our teachers, staff, and board members treasure, and will keep in our hearts forever.

It is with very mixed emotions that I and Elna Duffield, our board chairman, are announcing that, while we will be completing the school year as scheduled on Friday, June 5, 2026, this will be Kirkland Preschool’s last year.

We have had the privilege of having our preschool at its present location for many years. However, the Family Trust that owns the property, has made the decision that it is time to sell. We have decided that, at this stage of our lives, it would be too difficult to try to relocate. Finding another facility as amazing as this would be a daunting endeavor that we are not able to undertake. For families looking for resources for continuing with preschool next year, we recommend the Lake Washington Toddler Group for further information about many schools and family experiences.

Closing is a hard but necessary and carefully considered decision. This affects all of us and each of us in many ways. Throughout the years, we have developed incredible friendships and memories, and we hope that your experience with Kirland Preschool has left you with many of the same experiences.

We all look forward to enjoying the rest of this school year with you.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Wirkman, Director | Elna Duffield, Board President

When we have more information to share with you further into the closure process, we will share it here.
